Our WASM.io 2024 Experience: A Thrilling Ride into the Future of WebAssembly

As we step into the vibrant ecosystem of WebAssembly (WASM), our team’s participation in the 2nd edition of WASM.IO marks a significant milestone. It was not just another conference; it was our inaugural dive into a community teeming with innovation and enthusiasm.

Held in the beautiful city of Barcelona, we went there to present Dilla, our Design System solution based on Wasm.

Meeting the Community

One of the most exciting aspects of WASM.io was the chance to connect with the vibrant WASM community. From seasoned developers, upstream contributors, providers of Cloud solutions to newcomers like ourselves, everyone was eager to share their knowledge and experiences.

Giants like Google and Microsoft were there, siding with small initiatives like ours.

A Glimpse into the Future with the Component Model

The conference buzzed with excitement surrounding the future of WASM, particularly the highly anticipated Component Model preview2. Talks like Filling a Registry-Shaped Hole in the Wasm Component Ecosystem provided in-depth insights into building and using components with a registry. The announcement of the first public beta for the Component Model registry on wa.dev sent shivers down the spines of many, including ourselves.

It’s clear that the Component Model has the potential to fundamentally change the way we build applications with WASM and beyond.

Our Journey: Design Systems as universal package with WASM

During the conference, we had the privilege of presenting our own talk, Design Systems in WASM: One Year on the Bumpy Road to the Component Model. It was a fantastic experience to share our process with such a receptive audience.

We shared our journey through the challenges and triumphs of adopting WASM and our hopes and downs with the Component Model.

Looking Forward

WASM.io 2024 was a whirlwind of learning, inspiration, and connection. The energy and enthusiasm of the WASM community are truly contagious, and we left the conference feeling optimistic about the future of this innovative technology. With the Component Model on the horizon, the possibilities for WASM, like the polyglot aspects for business or building software is a revolution. I can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Next for us is a Meetup in Brussels 23 MAI 2024... and soon a meetup in Lisboa for WebAssembly.

Join us on this exciting journey. The road ahead is full of potential, and together, we can shape the future of software development.
